Staying fit in a relationship!

Firstly just a quick apology... Sorry it's been a while since I last posted something on my blog, I'm looking to change that and hope to be posting things more regularly, on here, on twitter and on Facebook.

Staying fit in a relationship;
I'm always hearing things like "I used to be fit before I met my partner" or "Before we got together I was in the best shape of my life". This seems to be a common thing between couples where one/or both people have gained weight over time. So in today's post I'm going to show you ways of how you can enjoy a happy, healthy relationship without feeling like you are missing out on anything.

As a couple it's normal to go out to eat in restaurants every now and again, the only problem being most restaurants are deep frying all their foods or adding unnecessary dressings/sauces to your dishes, while giving you free refills on your sugar filled coke. The calories will soon add up! So here's what I suggest...

1) Shall we go out to eat? - Make it a special occasion rather than a regular occasion. Not only will it make your night more special, but you'll be doing your body the world of good.

2) Drinks? - Ask for a glass of water with a wedge of lemon/lime, rather than a pint of coke. You'll not only cut back on 50g of sugar but also around 200 calories per glass.

3) Starters - Nachos covered in cheese, deep fried mozzarella, oily onion rings? Where possible, stick to something small and refreshing like a salad. Think lots of dark leafy greens, lots of veg and lots of colour. Just don't drown it in all the salad dressings.

4) Main course - Fishes or lean meats that have been grilled or oven roasted/baked are perfect. These often come with some starchy carb/fries and veg. Ask the waiter if you could have two sides of veg rather than the mountain of fries you never end up finishing!

5) Extra sauces? - If needed, season your food with salt & pepper. Try to stay clear of the extra dressings/sauces as just a tablespoon of mayo will boost the total calories of your meal by up to 100 calories.

6) Dessert - Still got room for dessert? Not a problem. Rather then pile up on the bottomless bowl of ice cream, or the sickly chocolate brownie swimming in fudge sauce, opt for a simple, yet delicious fruit salad and save 100's of calories.

The next common thing between couples is "takeaway nights". Instead of waiting 45 minutes for someone to hand deliver you an artery clogging, greasy pile of junk, why not agree to help each other cook a homemade, healthy meal. Not only will this be better for you, but it will also help bring you closer together as a couple and give you much more satisfaction knowing you have created a delicious meal yourself's.

Lunchtimes at work is another problem, mostly because of a lack of time. Preparation is key. Again this is something you could do as a couple, or something you could do for yourself and/or for your partner. The average meal deal is the shops are £3.99, multiply that by 5 (mon-fri) and that total's £19.95 a week, for one, on lunch alone. Preparing lunches in advance will work out much cheaper, will save so much more time and have a positive impact on your health!

Be active! Go for jogs as a couple, workout at home together or if that is too strenuous go for a light walk around the local park. Sure it may start off a chore, but keep going and chore will turn into habit, and habit will soon turn into a routine. Once you have a routine it will be harder to break it than to keep it, then you can truly reap the rewards of living a healthier lifestyle.

Just remember, health is the greatest wealth. You can not put a price on health, just like you can't put a price on love. The better you eat, the better your health. The better your health, the better you will feel. The better you feel, the happier you will become. If you and your partner are both feeling great, loving yourselves as well as loving each other, you'll stay happy and most importantly, you'll stay healthy!
