A scale does not define you. It is important you remember that whenever you have a bad day or when you are feeling low. A scale shows you how much you weigh, not your talents, not how you look, not how amazing your personality is and it certainly does not indicate all your unique qualities that make you who YOU are. So I think it's about time you stop giving the scale more power than it deserves. Don't you?
A lot of people I talk to often say, I weigh myself every day to see if I'm making progress. This is wrong. Your weight will fluctuate throughout the day, every time you eat, every time you drink and every time you go toilet, so you are not giving yourself a fair reading. For example, you weigh yourself in the morning before you have eaten, then the next day you weigh yourself in the afternoon after you have eaten, the scale may show a small gain in weight. Does this mean you're getting fat? OF COURSE IT DOESN'T! So I will say it again, stop weighing yourself every single day. Every fortnight or even every four weeks will give you a far better reading.
So what do I think is the best form of measuring your progress? Your eyes, and a tape measure! Why? Because a scale does not know what it is weighing. You could put 1kg of diamonds, and 1kg of cow manure on a scale and it would not know the difference. The same with fat and muscle, the scale does not know the difference. However, the difference between muscle and fat is huge. This picture will sum up all my points in one...
As you can see, muscle is more dense than fat, meaning you could full well be improving your figure, but the scale may not be giving you the respect you're due. The scale isn't telling you that your body is improving, this is why I say, take measurements and use your eyes! A tape measure will let you know if you have lost inches off your thighs, off your waist and your eyes will let you know if you're making progress!
So please, I tell you again, do not let a number on a scale define you. If you are seeing progress you are doing something right, so keep working hard, keep pushing yourself and lets get stronger, fitter and healthier! Now today's quote is one I have made up, I want you to think hard about it...
"130 - What does it mean? Can you define it? Do you know it's history? Do you know all that it has achieved? No? That's because IT'S JUST A NUMBER!"
A number on a scale does not define you!
